Two newly confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have been announced in Grayson County.

Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson announced the two new cases at his briefing Wednesday afternoon. The new victims, an 83-year-old man and 81-year-old man, are both residents of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation (GNR)

The county now has 91 confirmed cases of the virus, but only five newly reported cases over the last 48 hours. No new deaths were reported, leaving Grayson County’s fatalities related to the virus at five victims.

Five victims are currently hospitalized, with “a couple” of those patients being treated in intensive care, according to Henderson.

A total of 629 tests have been administered in Grayson County with 491 of the tests returned negative. Forty-seven test results are pending, and 27 (29.7 percent) victims have recovered from the virus.

Of the county’s 91 cases, 43 are residents of GNR and 15 are employees. Eleven Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation residents have also tested positive.

In total, 69 (75.8 percent) of the county’s COVID-19 cases are tied to the county’s two nursing homes. Four of the county’s five virus-related deaths are tied to GNR.

Five Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center employees have tested positive for the virus.

After Grayson County Health Department Director Josh Embry did not attend Henderson’s COVID-19 briefing on Monday, following a health department employee displaying coronavirus symptoms and undergoing testing, the director was in attendance on Wednesday.

A COVID-19 briefing will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As always, one can watch the briefing live on K105’s Facebook and YouTube pages and be heard on K105.
