Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson announced Friday afternoon at a coronavirus (COVID-19) briefing that no new cases of the virus have been confirmed in Grayson County since Thursday afternoon.

The county has a total of 103 confirmed cases of the virus, with 39 (37.9 percent) victims recovered, including five Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation residents listed as recovered this week.

No new deaths were reported Friday.

On Thursday, two new deaths were announced in Grayson County (the only two fatalities in the state), increasing the county’s death toll to eight. Gov. Andy Beshear, at his COVID-19 briefing on Thursday, said the fatal victims were an 82-year-old man and 95-year-old woman.

Of Grayson County’s confirmed coronavirus cases, 45 are residents of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation while 16 are staff members. Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation has had 12 residents test positive along with one employee.

In total, 74 (71.8 percent) of Grayson County’s COVID-19 cases are tied to the county’s two nursing homes, while five Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center employees have tested positive for the virus.

Grayson County Jailer Jason Woosley updated the efforts of the GCDC to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the facility, which currently detains 570 local, state and federal inmates.

Woosley said “an entire section of the main facility” is being used to separate the general population of the jail from inmates in quarantine. Since March, every new intake at the facility is being placed in 14 day quarantine, with every person in quarantine undergoing a COVID-19 test.

To date, Woosley said 27 inmates have been tested, with one positive case. He said the individual who tested positive is not displaying symptoms. Twenty-six test results are pending. Woosley added that nine detention center deputies have been tested, with one staff member testing positive and eight negative.

The staff member who tested positive was exposed by a family member and has not been to work since April 22.

Woosley said daily COVID-19 updates will be posted on the facility’s Facebook page (Grayson County Detention Center) and the GCDC’s website, www.gcdetention.com.
