Record-high 20 COVID-19 deaths in KY on Tuesday, including three in Edmonson Co.

Gov. Andy Beshear announced on Tuesday 164 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) were diagnosed in Kentucky between Monday and Tuesday afternoon.

The new cases increase confirmed cases of the virus in the state to 8,069. Beshear reported the most deaths over a 24 hour period since the pandemic began, as 20 Kentuckians lost their lives to COVID-19, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 366 (4.5 percent).

“Today we have lost more people to the coronavirus than any other day before,” the governor said. “While I believe that we can reopen safely and do it gradually, let’s remember that this thing is still deadly, and it is still taking people we love and care about.”

The new deaths are from Adair County (3), Allen County (1), Boone County (2), Campbell County (1), Daviess County (2), Jefferson County (2), Kenton County (2), Logan County (2), and Warren County (1).

Neighboring Edmonson County also reported three deaths on Tuesday, two men, ages 83 and 87 and an 80-year-old woman. Edmonson County now has 50 confirmed coronavirus cases with nine deaths.

Breckinridge County reported its first death since the beginning of the pandemic, a 63-year-old man. Breck County has 15 confirmed cases of the virus.

Beshear said since the onset of the outbreak, 2,010 (24.9 percent) victims have been hospitalized with 443 patients currently in a hospital. To date, 875 (10.8 percent) people have been treated in ICU, while 269 victims are currently in intensive care,

The governor noted that 2,826 (35 percent) people have recovered from the virus.

At least 153,800 (3.5 percent of the population) COVID-19 tests have been administered in Kentucky.
