A Caneyville man has been arrested on DUI and fleeing charges after leading the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office on a high-speed pursuit on Morgantown Road (Hwy 79).

Sunday evening at 10:30, Grayson County Sgt. Fred Norder was patrolling Morgantown Street in Caneyville when he observed a red Chevrolet Trailblazer, being driven by 25-year-old Justin L. Winchell, traveling at approximately 70 miles per hour in the 35 mph zone.

Norder activated his lights and siren, resulting in Winchell increasing his speed to 105 to 110 mph as he fled Norder south on Morgantown Road, according to the arrest citation.

The pursuit lasted for about two miles before Winchell began to slow his vehicle and turned right onto Windy Ridge Road. As Winchell turned onto Windy Ridge, the citations states that he attempted to make an immediate left turn onto Old Dog Creek Road, but Norder cut-off the turn, bringing an end to the pursuit.

Deputies Mark Johnson and Jason Luedke soon arrived on scene, with Luedke performing a field sobriety test on the suspect.

Winchell was arrested and charged with DUI (aggravating circumstances), fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), reckless driving, speeding 26 mph or more over the limit, no registration plate, no registration receipt, and no insurance. He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
