On Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear said at his coronavirus (COVID-19) briefing that 387 new cases of the virus were confirmed in Kentucky between Sunday and Tuesday.

The governor said 141 cases were reported Sunday, 122 on Monday and 117 on Tuesday, increasing the state’s total to 8,951 victims.

“These are some of the lowest daily numbers we have seen,” Besehear said. “But that is fragile, and with a disease that can so easily spread we have to want, and put into action, our desire to see that downward movement.”

Beshear also reported three new deaths Tuesday, raising the total to 394 Kentuckians lost to the virus.

“Let’s remember, every death is tragic,” the governor said. “Three new families, and 394 families total are still grieving. We’ll be turning our green lights back on at the Mansion on that same front porch. We show compassion there, not anger. We show love there, not hate.”

The deaths reported Tuesday include an 85-year-old woman from Adair County, a 63-year-old man from Allen County and a 72-year-old woman from Jefferson County.

The governor said 2,136 (23.9 percent) people have been hospitalized since the onset of the pandemic, with 489 victims currently in a hospital. He added that 897 (10.0 percent) victims have ever received treatment in ICU, while 78 people are currently in intensive care.

At least 3,115 (34.8 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 193,576 (about 4.4 percent of the population) COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
