The Grayson County Health Department has confirmed the coronavirus (COVID-19) death of a county resident.

On Thursday, Gov. Andy Beshear, at his daily COVID-19 briefing, reported an 82-year-old man from Grayson County died after contracting the virus. The health department reports new cases of the virus and coronavirus-related deaths on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. K105, though, confirmed with Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson Thursday night that Grayson County indeed had a new death. No other information on the death was released at that time.

On Friday, though, the health department said the victim was a former resident of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation who was moved from the facility on May 10.

The death marks the tenth COVID-19 fatality in Grayson County, with nine of the victims connected to either Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation (8) or Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation (1). One victim was a 66-year-old county resident.

No new cases of the virus were reported by the health department on Friday. The only new case confirmed in the county this week is a 22-year-old Perdue Farms employee whose diagnosis was announced on Wednesday.

The county has had 136 cases of the virus since the beginning of the pandemic, with 109 (80.1 percent) of those victims listed as recovered.

Of the county’s confirmed COVID-19 cases, 45 are residents of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation while 17 are staff members. Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation has had 12 residents test positive along with three employees.

Five cases have arisen from Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.

Grayson County Jailer Jason Woosley updated the detention center’s COVID-19 numbers on Friday, as he reports 25 victims connected to the facility have tested positive for the virus; 23 inmates and two deputies. Woosley added that two infected inmates are currently receiving treatment in a hospital. Four inmates have recovered, as have both stricken deputies.

A total of 49 tests have been administered at the detention center (30 inmates, 19 deputies), with 24 of those tests returned negative. The facility currently has zero COVID-19 tests pending.
