One new COVID-19 death in Grayson Co. Only four new cases reported over last two weeks.

On Friday, the Grayson County Health Department reported one new coronavirus (COVID-19) death in the county.

Health department officials said the latest fatal victim of the virus was an inmate at the Grayson County Detention Center. No other information on the decedent was released.

A total of 25 coronavirus cases have come from the detention center, as two deputies and 23 inmates tested positive for the virus. Twelve of the stricken inmates and both positive deputies have recovered, according to Jailer Jason Woosley.

A total of 49 tests have been administered at the facility (30 inmates, 19 deputies), Woosley said, with 24 of those tests returned negative. The facility currently has zero COVID-19 tests pending.

The new death raises the county’s death toll to 11 victims. Nine of the fatalities are connected to either Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation (8) or Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation (1). One victim was a 66-year-old county resident.

No new cases of the virus were announced by officials, leaving the county’s COVID-19 victim count at 139. Only four new case of the virus have been announced over the last two weeks.

Of the county’s confirmed COVID-19 cases, at least 45 are residents of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation while 17 are staff members. Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation has had at least 12 residents test positive along with at least three employees.

Five cases have arisen from Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.
