At Tuesday morning’s regularly scheduled meeting of the Grayson County Fiscal Court, Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson praised county employees and the road department for work in recent months.

During the meeting, Henderson signed a local state of emergency due to recent flooding. While doing so, he said about the road department, “When you get over 150-200 washouts in the county, the 740 miles, it is sort of hard to take care of with only 12 guys.”

“I just wanted to give them a shoutout, I think they have done a phenomenal job with that they’ve had to deal with. It seems like we take one on the chin and we start to come to and we get another one on the chin,” he added.

In addition, Henderson applauded the work of the rest of the employees in county government during the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

“I want to tell all the employees that we appreciate them, not only just Charlotte’s (Willis) staff and Jeremy’s (Logsdon) staff, it’s just been sort of unusual type year. I want to thank Angel (Hayes) and all of them.”

Both Willis’ and Logsdon’s office reopened this week to in-person meetings with extra precautions in place.

Magistrates accept salt bid

The court made the decision to accept a bid from Morton Salt, Inc. for road salt for the Fiscal Year 2020-21. The price was $81.75/ton. Of which, the county decided to purchase 70 tons costing $5,722.50.

Other bids received were from Cargill Deicing Technology ($81.80/ton), Compass Minerals America, Inc. ($82.40/ton), and Detroit Salt Company ($83.70/ton).
