Two people are being charged with multiple drug-related offenses after a Hart County K9 discovered narcotics in their vehicle.

Hart County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Tuesday around the 7500 block of North Dixie Hwy. in Bonnieville.

After the HCSO’s K9 Rina was deployed, it gave a positive alert for narcotics in the car. After a search, police located multiple items related to the use of heroin.

A three-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time of the arrest and Child Protective Services was summoned to take the child into emergency custody.

The sheriff’s office arrested the passenger of the vehicle, Danielle Cowan, 33, of Cave City, and charged her with possession of a controlled substance (heroin) and drug paraphernalia.

The driver, Barry Marcum, 31, of Gradyville, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, wanton endangerment, drug paraphernalia, and multiple traffic-related charges.

Both individuals were taken to the Hart County Jail where only Marcum was still listed as an inmate.
