An intoxicated motorcyclist is facing several felony charges after having a DUI wreck in Elizabethtown that critically injured his 12-year-old son and a woman.

Sunday night just after 6:00, the Elizabethtown Police Department responded to the single-vehicle crash on a Western Kentucky Parkway exit, just off Hwy 31-W, according to a report by The News-Enterprise.

Police arrested 45-year-old Tracey K. Miles, of Buffalo (LaRue Co.), who had a preliminary blood-alcohol level of .164, more than twice the legal limit to drive.

Miles suffered only minor injuries, but his son was airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital with serious head injuries, the newspaper reports. A female passenger suffered a brain bleed, fractured spine, shoulder injury, and several broken facial bones in the crash. She was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital.

Both are listed in critical but stable condition, with EPD spokesman Chris Denham telling The News-Enterprise that the boy faces “a long road ahead of him.”

Witnesses told police the boy was wearing a helmet, but a helmet was not found at the scene. Witnesses also told authorities that Miles, who exuded a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage,” was driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed before the crash, according to the newspaper.

Miles was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, and DUI. He is being held in the Hardin County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.
