Larue County dominates Lady Cougars soccer 5-2

The visiting Larue County Lady Hawks put forth a dominating performance, especially in the first half, as they defeated the Grayson County Lady Cougars 5-2 on Wednesday.

The Lady Hawks pressured the Grayson County goal throughout the first half, producing 11 corner kicks to none for the Lady Cougars. They finished the game with 14 corners to none for Grayson County.

Despite the Lady Hawk’s dominance, the game was scoreless until the 16th minute, when their leading scorer, senior Olivia Hazelwood, scored to make it 1-0.

In the 20th minute Hazelwood scored again when she took a goal kick from Lady Cougar goalie Allyssa Morgan about thirty yards in front of the Cougar goal and took it in all alone to score the goal that made it 2-0.

Lady Hawk freshman Isabella Rivera scored in the 26th minute, and freshman Kayla Downs scored in the 34th minute to make it 4-0 at the half.

Grayson County got on the board in the 52nd minute of play when they were awarded a free kick near the left sideline, about 30 yards out from the goal. Junior Ellie Evans took the shot and placed it in the far corner of the net to make it 4-1.

Morgan had spectacular saves in the 60th and 71st minute of play to keep the score 4-1. Then with just four minutes left to play, senior Gillian Johnston took a pass in front of the Lady Hawk goal from sophomore Kelsey Sneed and put the ball past the Lady Hawk keeper Maddie Holcomb to make it 4-2.

Then, with less than a minute to play, Hazelwood scored her third goal of the game to make the final score 5-2.

With the loss, the Lady Cougars fell to 2-5 on the season.
