The Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) has released a coronavirus update.

The health department said Friday morning that nine new cases of the virus have been confirmed in the county since the department’s last update on Tuesday. The newly reported cases increase Grayson County’s COVID-19 victim count to 427 since the onset of the pandemic.

Health officials said 23 victims are “isolated,” indicating a positive test, with an alarmingly high 98 people quarantined due to exposure to someone who tested positive for the virus. Two patients are currently in critical care units, officials said.

The GCHD said 387 (90.6 percent) patients have recovered from the virus.

The county’s death toll is now 17, after an earlier death was recently confirmed as COVID-19-related, according to GCHD Director Josh Embry. Two Grayson County deaths remain “under review” by state health officials.

The county now has had 182 cases of the virus diagnosed since August 25 (5.1 per day).
