15 new COVID cases in Grayson Co., 33 since Friday. 50 KY counties in the ‘red.’

The Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) has released a coronavirus update.

The health department said Tuesday morning that 15 new cases of the virus have been confirmed since the department’s last update on Friday. The newly reported cases increase Grayson County’s COVID-19 victim count to 486 since the onset of the pandemic.

There have been 59 new cases confirmed in Grayson County since Friday, October 2, and 48 since Friday, October 9.

Health officials said 34 victims are currently “isolated,” indicating a positive test. Three patients are in a hospital, officials said, and 180 people are in quarantine.

The GCHD said 435 (89.5 percent) patients have recovered from the virus.

No new deaths were reported, leaving Grayson County’s COVID-19 death toll at 17. Two previous deaths remain under review by state health officials.

Grayson County, with 33 confirmed cases since last Friday, remains in the “orange,” according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH), indicating “accelerated” spread of the virus.

Grayson County surrounded by “red” counties

Several nearby counties are in the “red,” indicating a “critical” spread of the virus, according to the KDPH. Those counties include Butler (26.6 cases per 100,000 population over the last seven days), Hart (51.8), Barren (37.8), McLean (57.4), Muhlenberg (26.6), Hopkins (30.1), Webster (37.5), and Union (52.6).

Currently, 50 of Kentucky’s 120 counties are in the “red.” The counties with the highest rate of occurrence over the last week are Clinton (62.9), Owsley (58.2), Nicholas (55), and Union counties (52.6).

Ten of the 16 counties bordering Tennessee are in the “red.”

Only 13 Kentucky counties are in the “yellow,” indicating “community spread” of COVID-19. No counties in the commonwealth are in the “green,” indicating “on track” for recovery from the pandemic.
