Nearly 1,800 new COVID cases in KY, 18 deaths. Hospitalizations, positivity rate continue to climb.

Gov. Andy Beshear on Tuesday reported 1,786 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed over the previous 24 hours in Kentucky.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 99,637.

The counties reporting the most new coronavirus cases on Tuesday were Jefferson (379), Fayette (118), Warren (68), Kenton (60), Hardin (49), and Pike (45).

Officials reported 18 new deaths on Tuesday, increasing the state’s death toll to 1,428 (1.4 percent fatality rate).

Those reported lost to the virus on Tuesday include a 99-year-old woman from Christian County; a 79-year-old woman from Henderson County; a 70-year-old woman from Hopkins County; three women, ages 79, 82 and 86, and five men, ages 62, 62, 70, 88 and 93, from Jefferson County; two men, ages 96 and 97, from Jessamine County; a 76-year-old man from Nicholas County; a 72-year-old man from Ohio County; two women, ages 77 and 91, from Scott County; and a 72-year-old woman from Wayne County.

The rolling seven-day positivity rate, inching steadily upward over the last week, checked in at 5.97 percent on Tuesday, up from Monday’s 5.84 percent.

Hospitalizations took a jump on Tuesday, as well, as 913 patients are currently in a hospital, up 55 from Monday, and the most hospitalizations recorded since the beginning of the pandemic. Intensive care patients dropped from Monday’s 253 to 233 on Tuesday. Officials said 115 patients are on ventilators, up three from Monday.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 6,947 (7 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 1,694 (1.7 percent) patients treated in ICUs.

At least 18,045 (18.1 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 1,964,463 coronavirus tests have been administered in the state.
