On Wednesday morning, K105 reported that a Grayson County High School staff member had contracted COVID-19.

The staff member last reported to work on Friday, October 23, school officials said, and was diagnosed with the virus on Tuesday. At that time, 20 students and two staff members were placed in quarantine (the 24 students in quarantine as a result of the positive test reported on Wednesday morning was revised down to 20 by school officials after realizing four of the quarantined students were duplicates).

On Wednesday afternoon, and upon further contact tracing, the school district said the Grayson County Health Department advised that due to potential contact through “extracurricular involvement,” an additional 28 students and three staff members will be required to quarantine. That move brings to 53 (48 students, five staff) the number of people placed in quarantine as a result of the GCHS staff member testing positive.

“Our staff and our students have been doing an unbelievable job of following all the recommendations and doing things right,” Superintendent Doug Robinson said. “We appreciate the diligence of our Health Department in taking the broadest possible precautions to keep our students, staff and families safe, as they work to limit the spread in our community.”

Currently, according to the district’s COVID-19 dashboard, 128 students and staff members in Grayson County Schools are under quarantine, with only one “active” COVID-19 case in the district.

Grayson County Schools has approximately 4,000 students and 600 staff members.
