5 Grayson Co. students test positive for COVID-19

Grayson County Schools announced on Monday that five students have tested positive for coronavirus.

According to the school district, one student at Lawler Elementary has tested positive “from a non-school exposure.” The student last attended school on October 22. No school contacts will be required to quarantine due to the positive test, district officials said.

Additionally, Grayson County Middle School has had four students recently test positive. The students last attended school on October 28 and 29, and two briefly on October 30.

“The Grayson County Health Department has notified those who will need to quarantine at this time, pending possible further contact tracing,” the district said.

The five newly confirmed coronavirus cases join four previously reported “active cases” of the virus involving a Wilkey Elementary student, two Grayson County High School staff members and one district office staff member, according to the Grayson County Schools COVID-19 Dashboard.

Also, according to the dashboard, there are currently 180 students and 15 staff members in quarantine after exposure to someone who tested positive for the virus. One-hundred-seven are in quarantine due to a school-related contact, with 88 in quarantine after a household or close contact.

District officials noted on Monday that there will be no athletic activities held at any schools this week.

The Grayson County School District has about 4,000 students and 600 staff members.
