One day after Superintendent Doug Robinson announced that Grayson County Schools (GCS) will transition back to virtual instruction beginning on Monday, GCS announced Friday evening that seven new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed within the district.

“The district has confirmed seven positive cases of COVID-19, three students at GCMS, three students at GCHS, and one staff member at Wilkey Elementary,” the district said. “All last attended on Oct. 30, except for one student, who attended briefly on Oct. 29. There are no school contacts that will need to quarantine at this time.”

The new cases raise to 16 the number of coronavirus cases linked to the school district this week, with 10 of the cases tied to the middle school.

The new cases give the district 12 active cases of the virus, according the GCS COVID-19 Dashboard, with 149 students and staff members currently in quarantine.

There are approximately 4,000 students in the district along with 600 staff members.
