With all the mail-in ballots now counted, in spite of the Grayson County Clerk’s Office being closed due to a COVID-19 infection, the outcome of the Leitchfield City Council race was unaltered after only one of the 15 newly counted ballots was a city voter.

Interestingly, all six of the women who ran in the council race received one vote on the lone ballot.

The three incumbents who ran for reelection regained their seats, with Raymond “Tooty” Cottrell, a long-time city council member who resigned his seat in March due to an impending medical procedure, winning the seat he held for a decade.

In fact, Cottrell was the leading vote getter in the six seat city council race with 1,028 votes, 63 more votes than the second place finisher, incumbent Margie Decker (965).

Immediately behind Cottrell and Decker were incumbent William “Billy” Dallas (941) and Carl “Moon” Smith (911), while incumbent James “Clayton” Miller (897) came in fifth. Rounding out the top six vote getters is Jessica Embry (837).

Opting not to run for another two-year term on the council were Harold Miller and Kelly Stevenson.
