Grayson County Schools (GCS) has announced three new cases of coronavirus involving school staff members have been confirmed within the district.

On Monday, GCS reported a staff member at Lawler Elementary School tested positive for the virus. On Tuesday, the district said two additional cases were confirmed: a staff member at Clarkson Elementary School and a Lawler staff member.

The new cases raise to three the total of cases linked to Lawler since November 2 (two staff, one student). The Clarkson staff member who tested positive marks the first case linked to the school this month.

In total, GCS has had 19 COVID-19 cases diagnosed since November 2. As of Tuesday, the district reported 15 active cases and 171 people quarantined (150 students, 21 staff), according to the GCS COVID-19 Dashboard.

Between November 2 and November 6, school officials reported 16 cases of the virus were diagnosed within the district: 13 students and three staff members.

Grayson County Schools, which transitioned back to virtual instruction on Monday, has about 4,000 students and 600 staff members. District officials are scheduled to discuss how to best move forward in the face of a pandemic that appears to be strengthening, as Grayson County is a solidly “red” county, indicating a “critical” spread of the virus, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

Between October 27 and Tuesday, the county had 179 cases of the virus confirmed (13.8 per day).
