A Rockcastle Co. man has been charged with murdering his stepmother.

Kentucky State Police arrested 42-year-old George Henshaw, of Mt. Vernon, late Monday night after Henshaw retrieved a gun during an altercation and fatally shot his stepmother, 60-year-old Lois Henshaw, also of Mt. Vernon.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Scottie Pennington told news outlets the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute between the two.

“They had some type of altercation,” Pennington said. “Not really a domestic, but maybe something that had been going on for a while and maybe just aggravating each other and picking. I think maybe the stepson … kind of got fed up with it.”

Henshaw confessed to the murder.

He was charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held in the Rockcastle County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.
