The Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) has released a coronavirus update.

The health department said Friday afternoon that 52 new cases of the virus have been confirmed since the department’s last update on Tuesday. The newly reported cases increase Grayson County’s COVID-19 victim count to 752 since the onset of the pandemic (one case for every 35.9 residents).

Since October 27, the county has had 231 cases of the virus confirmed (14.4 per day), keeping Grayson County firmly in the “red zone,” indicating a “critical” spread of the virus, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH).

The 231 cases confirmed since October 27 represent 30.7 percent of the 752 total cases confirmed since the onset of the pandemic about eight months ago.

The GCHD said there are 126 people “isolated,” with nine patients in a hospital.

The health department did not release updated quarantine numbers this week, but as of Thursday night, Grayson County Schools alone had 181 students/staff members in quarantine

No new deaths were reported, leaving Grayson County’s COVID-19 death toll at 20. As of Tuesday, “some (previous deaths were) under review by the state,” according to health officials.

The GCHD said 587 (78.1 percent) people have recovered from the virus.
