There have been nine new cases of coronavirus confirmed within Grayson County Schools since November 13.

The new cases include one staff member and three students at Grayson County Middle School, three students at Grayson County High School, one virtual learning student, and a district staff member.

According to school officials, the Grayson County Health Department has contacted those who need to quarantine due to exposure to the positive cases.

The district’s COVID-19 Dashboard says there are currently 15 active coronavirus cases within the school district, while 128 students and staff members are under quarantine.

In total, GCS has had 31 COVID-19 cases diagnosed since November 2.

After Grayson County Schools Superintendent Doug Robinson said last week that schools would transition back to remote instruction until after Thanksgiving, on Wednesday, Gov. Andy Beshear said in-person instruction will be ceased at all Kentucky schools until January 4, 2021, as the state experiences a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Grayson County, since October 27, has had 276 cases of the virus confirmed (13.8 per day), keeping the county firmly in the “red zone,” indicating a “critical” spread of the virus, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

The 276 cases confirmed since October 27 represent 34.6 percent of the county’s 797 total cases diagnosed since the onset of the pandemic in early March.

As of Tuesday, there were 116 people “actively sick” with the virus, according to the Grayson County Health Department.
