On Tuesday afternoon, the Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) released its second coronavirus update in two days.

GCHD Director Josh Embry said 10 new cases of the virus have been confirmed since Monday, raising the county’s COVID-19 victim count to 900. Embry said 111 of the cases are active, with nine patients hospitalized. He added that “over 450 people are in quarantine.”

No new deaths were reported, leaving Grayson County’s coronavirus death toll at 25.

Officials said 764 (84.9 percent) Grayson County residents have recovered from the virus.

Increase in COVID cases in Grayson County Schools

The Grayson County Schools District has had five additional COVID-19 cases confirmed since Thursday.

Two staff members, one from Wilkey Elementary School and the other from Grayson County High School, were diagnosed on Friday. Then on Tuesday, three additional cases were announced: two students and one staff member from the high school.

There are currently seven “active” cases within the school system.

In total, the district has had 36 coronavirus cases within the district since November 2.

According to the district’s COVID-19 Dashboard, 89 students/staff are currently under quarantine, with nine of the quarantines the result of “school-related contact” and the 80 due to “household or close contacts.”

Grayson County Schools has about 4,000 students and 600 staff members.
