A Hardin County man who volunteered with a church youth group has been arrested for having sexual contact with a minor.

Timothy L. Waters, 39, of Elizabethtown, was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree sexual abuse, third-degree sodomy and third-degree rape.

Waters, according to The News-Enterprise, volunteered at The Driven Church in Elizabethtown. He volunteered at the church for about one year.

“He was a volunteer in a large group setting only,” Elder Ben Ashlock told the newspaper. “He was not in a leadership role with the church, but he did assist with the youth for about a year.”

The investigation began when a Vine Grove police officer observed Waters and a 16-year-old girl at a city park. The teenager was interviewed by police, resulting in Waters’ arrest.

The newspaper reports that the arrest citation says Waters was “in a position of authority” when he allegedly had sexual contact with the girl on multiple occasions.

He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center but is no longer listed as an inmate.
