The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam involving Federal Express and possibly other businesses.

The sheriff’s office said on Saturday, “If you receive a check in the mail from FedEx or any other business, call the business FIRST to verify if the check is good.”

Sheriff Norman Chaffins noted that if one is not expecting a check, “then it’s probably a SCAM and the check will not be honored (and) you will be stuck paying the fees on it.”

Chaffins reminds residents that “Nothing is for free,” and if something seems too good to be true, it likely is a scam.

“Scams will increase as we get further into the holiday season,” Chaffins warned.
