Over 2,800 new COVID cases in KY, 11 deaths

On Sunday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 2,803 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 176,925.

The counties reporting the most new cases on Sunday were Jefferson (471), Fayette (314), Daviess (132), Hardin (103), Boone (93), McCracken (74), Kenton (70), Campbell (62), and Henderson (60).

Officials reported 11 coronavirus-related deaths, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 1,896 (1.1 percent fatality rate). Kentucky has now had 184 COVID-19-related deaths over the last 11 days (16.7 per day).

Those reported lost to the virus on Sunday include two men, ages 70 and 80, from Caldwell County; an 87-year-old woman from Fulton County; a 60-year-old woman from Hopkins County; a 61-year-old woman and a 90-year-old man from McCracken County; an 88-year-old man from McLean County; and four women, ages 61, 83, 93 and 93, from Warren County.

The rolling seven-day positivity rate jumped above nine percent for the first time in several days, as the metric checked in at 9.24 percent, up from Saturday’s 8.95 percent.

Hospitalizations fell by 63 patients to 1,709, while intensive care patients dropped by one to 407. Patients on ventilators fell by two to 218.
