Nearly 1,500 new COVID cases in KY, eight deaths

Gov. Andy Beshear on Monday reported 1,455 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 258,517 (about one case per 17 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported eight new deaths, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 2,563 (one percent fatality rate). Kentucky has now had 655 COVID-19-related deaths over the last 28 days (23.3 per day).

Those reported lost to the virus on Monday include a 74-year-old Grayson County woman, along with a 92-year-old man from Bath County; a 64-year-old woman from Henderson County; a 93-year-old woman and three men, ages 41, 67 and 79, from Jefferson County; and an 80-year-old woman from Madison County.

The rolling seven-day positivity rate dropped from Sunday’s 8.06 percent to 7.97 percent on Monday.

Hospitalizations rose by 48 patients to 1,552, while the number of intensive care patients remained at 411. Victims on ventilators also stayed the same at 217.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 13,099 (5.1 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 2,984 (1.2 percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 35,988 (13.9 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and nearly 3.38 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
