Over 15,000 new COVID cases in Ky. over last three days, 84 deaths

After Gov. Andy Beshear reported 5,742 coronavirus cases on Wednesday, 4,911 on Thursday, on Friday, the governor announced 4,750 new cases of the virus have been confirmed in Kentucky.

Over the last three days, officials have reported 15,403 new COVID-19 cases. The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 296,167 (about one case per 14.9 Kentucky residents).

The counties reporting the most new cases on Friday include Jefferson (758), Fayette (302), Daviess (145), Hardin (145), and Boone (111).

Officials reported 13 new deaths, including a 55-year-old Grayson County woman and 78-year-old Grayson County man, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 2,856 (one percent fatality rate). Kentucky has now had 84 COVID-19-related deaths in the last three days (28 per day), and 948 deaths over the last 39 days (24.3 per day).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate, which has been rising all week, fell slightly from 11.93 on Thursday to 11.91 percent on Friday.

Hospitalizations rose by four patients to 1,748, while intensive care patients dropped by 31 people to 393. Victims on ventilators remained at 217.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 14,359 (4.9 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,192 (1.1 percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 38,445 (13 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and nearly 3.6 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
