A young southern Kentucky man has been killed after driving around a crossing gate and colliding with a train.

Kentucky State Police said that on Saturday night at approximately 6:20, troopers responded to the deadly accident on Peden Mill Road, about three miles southeast of Franklin, in Simpson County.

KSP said the preliminary investigation revealed that 23-year-old Eric L. Webb, of Franklin, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Impala west on Peden Mill Road when he approached a railroad crossing with the crossing gates down.

Webb attempted to drive around the gate but was unable to clear the intersection before being struck by a CSX train.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Simpson County Coroner. The investigation continues and is being led by Trooper Mike Wathen.
