A Hardin County man has been arrested after passing out behind the wheel of a vehicle in the middle of a road.

Early Sunday morning, West Point police found 34-year-old Justin M. Hall, of West Point, passed out in a car with the engine running and parked in the middle of a road.

Upon making contact with the suspect, police believed Hall was under the influence of heroin, as he displayed sluggish body movements, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet, according to a report by The News-Enterprise.

Police observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle and in plain view and asked Hall if there was anything that could stick them during a search. Hall responded that there was not. But when searching Hall, an uncapped syringe in one of Hall’s shirt pockets punctured an officer’s hand, the newspaper reports.

During a search of Hall’s vehicle, police located a bag of heroin and heroin residue inside a can, as well as a plastic cap containing heroin residue.

He was arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, possession of a controlled substance (heroin), possession of drug paraphernalia, and public intoxication (excludes alcohol).

Hall was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center but is no longer listed as an inmate.
