51 new COVID deaths in KY, 145 ICU admissions since Wednesday. Record 548 patients in intensive care.

Gov. Andy Beshear on Thursday reported 4,084 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 317,345 (about one case per 13.9 Kentucky residents).

Counties reporting the most new cases on Thursday include Jefferson (642), Kenton (235), Boone (176), Oldham (176), Fayette (172), Warren (139), Pulaski (131), Campbell (126), Morgan (115), and Daviess (101).

Officials reported an alarmingly high 51 new deaths on Thursday, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 3,042 (one percent fatality rate). Kentucky has now had 270 COVID-19-related deaths over the last nine days (30 per day), and 1,134 deaths over the last 45 days (25,2 per day).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate rose slightly from Wednesday’s 12.29 percent to 12.34 percent on Thursday.

Hospitalizations fell on Thursday by 41 patients to 1,661, while intensive care patients rose by a disheartening 145 people to 548, the most intensive care admissions reported since the beginning of the pandemic. Victims on ventilators decreased from 225 on Wednesday to 196 on Thursday.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 15,022 (4.7 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,312 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 39,998 (12.6 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 3.7 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
