Gov. Andy Beshear on Thursday said nearly 175,000 coronavirus vaccines have been administered in Kentucky.

Beshear said 324,650 vaccine doses have been received and 172,537 doses have been administered. Of the administered doses, 28,977 have been given to long-term care facility residents and staff.

More than 67,000 doses were administered between January 3 and January 9, about 30,000 more doses than were administered the week prior. Since January 10, more than 45,000 additional doses have been administered.

Walgreens and CVS have a contract with the federal government to administer vaccines to residents and staff at long-term care facilities.

Adam Mather, inspector general at the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, announced that during the week of January 4-10, Walgreens vaccination 3,512 residents at 72 long-term care facilities, with 2,059 staff members receiving doses.

That week, CVS completed vaccinations at 75 long-term care facilities, with 2,973 residents and 2,432 staff receiving doses.

In Grayson County, health department Director Josh Embry said earlier this week the agency is out of COVID-19 vaccine. The health department administered all 300 doses the agency received, Embry stated, adding that he hopes additional doses will arrive next week.

Embry said the next batch of vaccine is earmarked for Grayson County Schools’ employees. If there are doses remaining, Embry said “… we will contact those seniors on our (the health department’s) waiting list.”

Embry added that Grayson County nursing homes have vaccinated or are in the process of vaccinating residents.
