Nearly 4,000 new COVID cases in KY, 19 deaths

On Friday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 3,955 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 321,270 (about one case per 13.7 Kentucky residents).

Counties reporting the most cases on Friday include Jefferson (584), Oldham (279), Fayette (254), Kenton (227), Boone (160), Warren (129), Daviess (116), and Hardin (97).

Officials reported 19 deaths on Friday, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 3,061 (one percent fatality rate). Kentucky has now had 289 COVID-19-related deaths over the last 10 days (28.9 per day), and 1,153 deaths over the last 46 days (25.1 per day).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate fell from Thursday’s 12.34 percent to 12.09 percent on Friday.

Hospitalizations fell by 17 patients to 1,644, while intensive care patients decreased by 156 people to 392. Victims on ventilators increased by seven patients to 203.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 15,102 (4.7 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,320 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 40,100 (12.5 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 3.73 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
