40 new COVID deaths in KY, nearly 2,000 new cases. State averaging 35 deaths per day last three days.

On Monday, state health officials announced 1,998 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 328,668 (about one case per 13.4 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported 40 new deaths, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 3,167 (one percent fatality rate), and giving the state 106 COVID-related deaths over the last three days (35.3 deaths per day). Over the last 13 days, Kentucky has had 395 coronavirus deaths (30.4 per day).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate rose from Sunday’s 11.49 percent to 11.64 percent on Monday.

Hospitalizations dropped by 15 patients since Sunday to 1,587, while intensive care patients fell by 13 people to 387. Victims on ventilators decreased by four patients to 208.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 15,347 (4.7 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,368 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 40,761 (12.4 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 3.78 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
