Grayson County Schools is reporting five new COVID-19 cases within the district.

On Tuesday, school officials said two positive cases were confirmed: a Wilkey Elementary School student who has not attended school since Christmas break, and a Grayson County High School staff member who last worked at the school on January 15.

On Wednesday, the district reported three new cases of the virus: A Wilkey student who has not attended school since before Christmas break; a Lawler Elementary School student who has not attended school since January 13; and a Lawler staff member who last worked on Tuesday.

Last week, district officials said eight new cases of the virus were diagnosed. The new cases were: Two virtual learning students; one staff member and one student at Grayson County Middle School; one student at Grayson County High School; one student at Clarkson Elementary School; one student at Wilkey Elementary School; and one district employee.

According to the district’s COVID-19 Dashboard, as of Wednesday, there were 11 active cases within the district and 159 students/staff members under quarantine.

Of the 159 people in quarantine, 97 (61 percent) are due to non-school-related contacts.

Grayson County Schools has approximately 4,000 students and 600 staff members.
