Record number of COVID deaths in KY, 3,728 new cases

On Thursday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced 3,728 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 338,034 (about one case per 13 Kentucky residents).

The counties reporting the most new cases include Jefferson (604), Fayette (230), Kenton (162), Boone (143), Hardin (129), Warren (126), Daviess (125), and Madison (112).

Officials reported a record-high 58 new deaths, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 3,301 (one percent fatality rate), and giving the state 240 COVID-19 deaths over the last six days (40 per day).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate remained below 12 percent for the sixth straight day, as the metric fell from 11.29 percent on Wednesday to Thursday’s 11.05 percent.

Hospitalizations fell by 74 patients to 1,604, while intensive care admissions dropped by four patients to 395. Victims on ventilators rose by four to 209.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 15,692 (4.6 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,402 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 41,469 (12.3 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 3.8 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
