Warren Central snaps Lady Cougars’ five-game winning streak, 62-50

The Lady Cougars had their five game winning streak snapped Saturday evening in the Cougar Den as the visiting Warren Central Lady Dragons defeated them 62-50.

There were three ties and two lead changes in the first period which saw the two teams deadlocked at 12-12 at the start of the second period.

The Lady Cougars opened the second quarter with a 13-3 run to give them a 10-point lead, 25-15 with 5:26 left in the first half. The Lady Dragons then outscored the Lady Cougars 11-5 the rest of the period to cut their deficit to just four points, 30-26 at the half.

There was one tie and three lead changes in the first three minutes of the third quarter. Grayson County tied the score one last time, 37-37, on a lay-in by Ella Robinson with 4:33 left. The Lady Dragons then closed the period on a 10-6 run to lead 47-43 at the start of the fourth quarter. Grayson County would get no closer than two points the rest of the way.

The Lady Cougars committed 14 turnovers in the second half, which Warren Central turned into 17 points.

La Auhnni Lewis led the Lady Dragons with 20 points, while Saniyah Shelton added 17, 13 of which came in the second half.

The senior, Robinson, had a career high 22 points to lead the Lady Cougars, and she added six rebounds and a steal. Senior Rachael Snyder scored 15 points and led the team on the glass with 13 rebounds. She added an assist and two steals to her totals.

Sophomores Annie Kiper and Aryssa Riggs both scored five points, with Kiper adding three rebounds and a team-high four assists. Junior Raigan Cave closed out the Lady Cougar scoring with three points.
