51 new COVID deaths in KY, fewer than 2,600 new infections

Gov. Andy Beshear on Wednesday announced 2,592 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 369,519 (about one case per 11.9 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported a troubling 51 deaths, raising the death toll to 3,863 (one percent fatality rate). The state has now had 802 COVID-19 deaths over the last 19 days, an average of 42.2 per day.

The rolling seven-day positivity rate dropped from Tuesday 8.83 percent to 8.53 percent on Wednesday.

Hospitalizations increased by five patients to 1,340, while intensive care patients fell by five people to 368. Victims on ventilators dropped by one to 172.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 17,010 (4.6 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,618 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 44,073 (12 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 4.1 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
