A Kentucky State Police Trooper escaped serious injury Wednesday morning when her cruiser was struck in Calloway County.

Kentucky State Police said that Wednesday morning at approximately 7:05, Trooper Sarah Burgess was investigating a single-vehicle accident on Hwy 80 near Cook Store Trail, about 15 miles northwest of Murray.

Police said Burgess had positioned her cruiser in the westbound left lane with emergency equipment activated in order to provide protection for the victim’s vehicle. She also had the passenger from the wrecked vehicle, 33-year-old Sean O. Alexander, of Springville, Tennessee, in her cruiser (he was being detained due to an outstanding felony warrant).

While Burgess spoke with Alexander in the cruiser, KSP said a westbound 2000 Toyota 4Runner, being driven by 19-year-old Jameson D. Robbins, of Paris, Tennessee, crossed a bridge, with Robbins losing control and colliding with Burgess’ cruiser.

The cruiser came to rest partially in the median.

Burgess sustained minor injuries and was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center via a police vehicle. Robbins and his passenger, 18-year-old Aston T. O’ Daniel, of Puryear, Tennessee, refused medical treatment at the scene.

Alexander also refused medical treatment and was lodged in the Calloway County Detention Center on the outstanding warrants.
