Fewer than 2,500 new COVID cases over weekend, 29 deaths. Positivity rate continues to fall.

Over the weekend, Kentucky officials reported a combined 2,479 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the commonwealth on Saturday (769) and Sunday (1,710).

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 388,798 (about one case per 11.3 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported 29 COVID-related deaths over the weekend, raising the death toll to 4,282 (1.1 percent fatality rate).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate continues to fall, as it checked in at 6.87 percent on Saturday before dropping to 6.78 percent on Sunday.

Hospitalizations decreased from Friday to Sunday by 44 patients to 1,019, while intensive care admissions fell by eight to 278. Victims on ventilators dropped by nine patients to 147.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 18,054 (4.6 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,786 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 45,880 (11.8 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 4.29 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
