Just under 1,500 new COVID cases in KY, 16 deaths

On Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 1,497 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 399,013 (about one case per 11 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported 16 COVID-related deaths, raising the state’s death toll to 4,476 (1.2 percent fatality rate).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate dropped from Monday’s 6.60 percent to 6.30 percent on Tuesday.

Hospitalizations increased by 24 patients to 894, while intensive care admissions fell by one to 243. Victims on ventilators dropped by 27 patients to 121.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 18,768 (4.7 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,912 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 47,067 (11.8 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and over 4.4 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
