Under 1,200 new COVID cases over weekend, 37 deaths. Positivity rate drops half-point since Friday.

Over the weekend, Kentucky health officials reported a combined 1,700 new coronavirus cases were confirmed on Saturday (1,025) and Sunday (675), marking the seventh consecutive week of declining cases.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 404,622 (about one case per 10.9 Kentucky residents).

Health officials reported 37 COVID-related deaths over the weekend, raising the state’s death toll to 4,637 (1.1 percent fatality rate).

Continuing a week-long trend, the rolling seven-day positivity rate dropped from Friday’s 5.52 percent to 5.02 percent on Sunday, the lowest the metric has been in at least four months, according to Gov. Andy Beshear.

Over the weekend, hospitalizations decreased by 86 patients to 732, while intensive care admissions fell by 33 to 187. Victims on ventilators increased by 13 people to 118.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 19,101 (4.7 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,970 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 47,544 (11.8 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and about 4.5 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.

Health officials report that at minimum 687,823 Kentuckians have received at least one COVID vaccine.
