A Laurel County man has been charged with fetal homicide and other felonies after punching a woman in her stomach so hard the blow caused a miscarriage.

Freddy T. Humfleet, 44, of London, was arrested Friday after he stuck a pregnant woman with a board and his fist, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root. In addition to losing the baby (the victim was 10 weeks pregnant), the woman suffered bruising and lacerations to her face, neck and upper body. Humfleet is also accused of choking the woman, Root said.

Humfleet, who has a long history of arrests, was charged with third-degree fetal homicide, third-degree assault, first-degree strangulation, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center on a $25,000 cash bond.

According to a report by the Lexington Herald-Leader, in 2018, he was charged with attacking his aunt, who had bruises on her face, chest, legs and back, along with marks on her neck consistent with being choked.

In 2020, Kentucky State Police charged Humfleet with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon, after finding brass knuckles in his wallet.
