An intentionally set fire has heavily damaged a residence in Wax.

Tuesday night at approximately 11:00, the Wax, Leitchfield and Clarkson Fire Departments responded to an arson fire in the 400 block of Washburn Road.

Initially, Grayson County Deputy Jason Luedke was dispatched to the residence after the property owner, who lives out of town, informed authorities that a burglary alarm was sounding at the residence. The caller also said she saw someone on surveillance cameras running from the property.

Soon after, the owner reported seeing smoke on surveillance video, with Wax fire personnel responding and requesting additional manpower from Leitchfield and Clarkson.

Upon arriving at the residence, firefighters found the back of the home — which appeared to be an addition — fully engulfed as fire spread into the attic area of the residence.

Firefighters battled the blaze from inside and outside the residence for about two hours, saving the home from total destruction. The attic area and addition were thoroughly burned, with fire burning a hole in the roof, as well. Firefighters, though, were able to salvage the right side of the residence and possibly its contents.

Officials said an accelerant was “obviously” used to start the fire. The Kentucky State Police Arson Unit was notified and fire officials and Luedke took control of evidence.

There were no injuries reported and firefighters cleared the scene at 2:00 Wednesday morning.

Anyone with information on this arson is asked to contact the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office or Kentucky State Police.
