2 perish in Jefferson Co. house fire, 2 injured

Two people have perished in an early morning residential fire in Jefferson County.

Thursday morning at approximately 3:00, Louisville firefighters responded to the blaze in the 1800 block of South 24th Street, in the Algonquin neighborhood. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the home nearly fully engulfed in flames.

One occupant of the home was able to escape, while another person was rescued from the blaze by firefighters. Both were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

After battling the blaze for nearly 40 minutes, firefighters located two deceased adults. The identities of the decedents have not been released.

Officials said there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

The residence received extensive damage while an adjacent home suffered minor damage.

The Louisville Fire Department Arson Unit is investigating the deadly fire.
