Gov. Andy Beshear on Wednesday reported 785 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 438,927 (about one case per 10 Kentucky residents).

“As we can see from today’s case numbers, this virus isn’t going away on its own,” Beshear said. “We have to come together to stop it. Hundreds of Kentuckians are still getting sick every day. Our people are still dying form COVID-19. But we have the power to defeat this pandemic now, and the way we can do that is by choosing to get vaccinated.”

Officials reported 13 coronavirus deaths (includes six audit deaths), raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 6,373 (1.5 percent fatality rate).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate fell slightly (and for the fourth straight day) from Tuesday’s 3.44 percent to 3.39 percent on Wednesday.

Hospitalizations decreased by two patients to 417, while the number of people in intensive care fell by eight to 113. Victims on ventilators rose by four people to 52.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 21,570 (4.9 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 4,431 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 50,923 (11.6 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

Officials said 1,682,774 Kentuckians have received at least their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine.
