Positivity rate drops for fifth straight day. 628 new COVID cases, 8 deaths.

Gov. Andy Beshear on Thursday reported 628 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 439,551 (about one case per 10 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported eight coronavirus deaths (includes three audit deaths), raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 6,381 (1.5 percent fatality rate).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate fell slightly (and for the fifth straight day) from Wednesday’s 3.39 percent to 3.36 on Thursday.

Hospitalizations increased by 23 patients to 440, while the number of people in intensive care rose by eight to 121. Victims on ventilators rose by three people to 55.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 21,616 (4.9 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 4,440 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 50,979 (11.6 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

Officials said 1,696,500 Kentuckians have received at least their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine.
