Thomas Nelson hit-fest results in 10-6 Lady Cougar loss

Two Lady Cougar pitchers gave up 16 hits to the visiting Thomas Nelson Generals on Thursday which resulted in a 10-6 loss and a 2-12 season record.

Sophomore right-hander Aryssa Riggs started in the circle for the Lady Cougars and went an inning and 2/3, allowing six runs on four hits. She walked no one and struck out one. Sophomore Mallory Lindsey relieved in the second and went the final 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on 12 hits. She walked two and struck out no one.

A single and two Lady Cougar errors accounted for two Generals runs in the top of the first inning.

The Lady Cougars responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first to tie it at 2-2. Annie Kiper walked leading off and was sacrificed to second by Addy Bratcher. Kiper made it to third on the play.

Shelby Davis walked and stole second base, putting runners at second and third, and both runners came home on a double to the wall in left-center by catcher Autumn Riggs.

The Generals scored all the runs they would need in the second inning when they sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs on six hits to lead 7-2.

Thomas Nelson made it 10-2 with three more runs in the fifth inning.

The Lady Cougars scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 10-3. Madelyn Henning led off with a single, stole second base, moved to third on a ground out by Kiper, then scored on another ground out by Addy Bratcher.

Grayson County got closer with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Back-to-back doubles by Autumn Riggs and Audrey Killion produced the first run before a single by Ella Gibson plated the other.

The Generals left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, keeping the score at 10-5.

Grayson County added another run in the seventh. Bratcher singled leading off and stole second base. With one out, Bratcher moved to third on a ground out by Lauren Stevenson, then scored when a ground ball by Riggs got through second baseman Arica Jackson for an error. Killion then grounded out to end the game.
