A toddler has drowned at Falls of Rough after apparently falling into the water.

Friday afternoon at approximately 3:30, multiple law enforcement agencies, Grayson and Breckinridge County Emergency Management, search and rescue crews, and the Falls of Rough and Leitchield Fire Departments responded to the report of a missing two-year-old girl, Serenity Mansfield, of Owensboro, at 55 Jenny Green Road (Falls of Rough Resort and Golf Course), near Greenleaf Mansion.

The toddler was with her family when she disappeared about 3:15. The family was at the location for a wedding.

The area where Serenity went missing is near a series of cabins, and a swiftly moving Rough River Lake, across a bridge from Grayson County in Breckinridge County.

After the water was lowered at the Rough River Lake dam and the current eased, the Leitchfield Fire Department put a rescue boat in the water at about 6:15 but had no success. Additionally, multiple dogs were utilized and a thorough search in a high grass/densely wooded area was undertaken by volunteers and first responders. Drones were also used to try and locate the missing child.

Then at approximately 7:30, just before a Falls of Rough FD diver was going to enter the water, Serenity’s body was located by a farmer about six miles downstream from where she apparently fell into Rough River Lake.

Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson responded to the scene and pronounced Serenity deceased. Hudson transported the body to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for autopsy.

In addition to the Falls of Rough and Leitchfield FDs and Hudson, other Grayson County officials who responded to the scene were Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Sonny Poteet and Deputies Andy Vincent and Nick Pruitt, and Emergency Management Director Tony Willen, along with Kentucky State Trooper Joey Beasley.
