A medical emergency preceded a semi-truck crashing on the Western Kentucky Parkway just east of Caneyville.

Wednesday afternoon at approximately 5:50, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Det. Fred Norder and Deputy Nick Pruitt, the Caneyville Fire Department and EMS responded to near the 98-mile marker of the eastbound parkway.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found that the male driver of the truck suffered a medical emergency, causing the semi to briefly enter the median before crossing both eastbound lanes and hitting the end of a guardrail head-on. The cab of the truck then traveled behind the mangled guardrail and onto an embankment.

The driver was removed from the cab and transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The semi, owned by CJ Transfer out of Chillicothe, Ohio, and carrying lumber, traveled about a quarter-mile after the driver became incapacitated.

The eastbound parkway was relegated to one lane until about 9:25 Wednesday night as workers removed a section of guardrail before the truck was taken from the scene.
